Detailed description
Who are we? VluchtelingenWerk is an independent and professional organization that works for the protection of refugees with almost 10,000 volunteers at many locations in the Netherlands. We provide personal support and represent the interests of admission, reception and integration into our society. We believe it is important to help them build a new life. Our volunteers form the basis of our organization and are the driving force of the Council for Refugees.
What are you going to do?
Do you enjoy showing newcomers around the municipality of Velsen?
Once refugees have been granted a status and move to a home in a municipality, a lot is expected of them. In many villages and towns they are guided during that turbulent phase by the volunteers of the Council for Refugees.
Immigrants take a first year of integration classes prior to the integration lessons. Part of the first year is learning your way around your own residential area. Volunteers from Refugee Work offer three excursions during the first year of secondary school during which they visit various organizations and where status holders are shown around. There are various excursions. Examples of this include a visit to the library, the allotments, the IJmuiden locks, the swimming pool, the thrift store or Socius. We can also take a walk through the neighborhood.
The excursions take place once or twice a month (time investment of approximately 8 hours per month)
