Would you like to share your talent with people with an intellectual disability for a day (or part) of the week? Then our Workshop might be just the place for you.

For the Workshop of De Ark in Bloemendaal we are looking for an enthusiastic

assistant activity supervisor (volunteer)

Every day, six or seven people with an intellectual disability come to our Workshop for meaningful daytime activities. Under the supervision of a professional activity supervisor, they usually work outside in the morning, in our Tuinderij or on the grounds of Landgoed Dennenheuvel. And in the afternoon in our creative Workshop. There they make the most beautiful products at their own pace, without work or performance pressure and above all in line with what they themselves want, are good at or want to learn. Sometimes they work together and make herbal tea, chutney or jam. Usually everyone works on their own products made of wood, paper, textile, felt, paint, pin work, and so on. Our products are sold a few times a year at markets or on special occasions and are very popular.

At least one volunteer works as an assistant to the activity supervisor every half day. You help the participants with their activities, contribute to a pleasant atmosphere, provide coffee, tea or soup, catch participants, go read or walk with them, exactly what is needed. The activity supervisor is responsible and your source of information. They and our participants are undoubtedly very happy with the help you can offer them.

Our workshop is open every day from 09:00 to 15:30. At the moment we are mainly looking for assistance on Wednesday afternoons from 12.15 pm.

Who are we?

The Ark community Haarlem consists of:

Arkhuis Pelletier .

· Workshop De Ark, where six to seven people come every day for meaningful daytime activities.

· Tuinderij De Ark, where the workshop people work with in the morning. De Tuinderij grows vegetables for approximately 80 harvest participants, people from the region who come to harvest themselves.

· And a large community of people (friends) who support the whole. Many of these people also volunteer in the home, the market garden and/or the workshop.

Forming community and spirituality are important to us. This takes shape in our weekly closure (celebration and meal) on Friday afternoon, at all kinds of other festive or important moments and in the way in which we interact with each other and with others.

The Ark Community Haarlem is part of the international federation of Ark Communities ( L'Arche ). We live and work on the Dennenheuvel estate in Bloemendaal. In a few years we will move to a new building, which will be built there.
